Having already blown away audiences across the globe, electronic experimentalist Squarepusher brings his Ufabulum live show to new cities this year. In contrast to most audio/visual presentations at this scale, everything was originally conceived, written, designed and played live by Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher) himself. The show will continue to evolve over the coming months creating a unique experience for each performance.

Written and directed by Dustin Lance Black, Virginia stars Jennifer Connelly as a single mother who struggles to raise her, while dreaming of escaping her small town. Her long time affair with the very married, Mormon Sheriff Richard Tipton (Ed Harris) is thrown into question when he decides to run for public office.

Look for the film in select theaters May 18th.

Four featurettes were released yestrday for Wes Anderson's forthcoming film Moonrise Kingdom (to release Memorial Day weekend). The featurettes focus on the characters played by Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Bruce Willis and one for Wes Anderson.

The film also stars: Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, Moonrise Kingdom follows a young boy and girl falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down.

One of my personal favorite films I got to screen at the Newport Beach Film Festival was July Delpy's French dramedy Le Skylab.
The film is set in 1979. Albertine is 10 years old and all her relatives have gathered in the family house in Bretagne for their grandmother's birthday. Some believe the Sky Lab, a piece of a NASA rocket, will fall on their head that summer. This reunion turns out to be a crazy week-end of revelations, love and singing.

One of the most exciting documentaries I caught at the Newport Beach Film Festival was Sunset Strip.
The documentary follows the history of the mile-and-a-half strip of road in Los Angeles where dreams are started, chased, loved, hated, displayed, ignored, ended, or all of the above. The film features Sofia Coppola, Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, Keanu Reeves, Dita Von Teese, Peter Fonda and many more.

Another song dropped off The Walkmen’s forthcoming album Heaven (out June 5th via Fat Possum). With the tracks I've heard, this sounds like it could be another album of the year contender. “We Can’t Be Beat” features Fleet Fox Robin Pecknold on backing vox.

Bethany Cosentino doesn’t exactly break any new ground on Best Coast's forthcoming sophomore album The Only Place (out May 15th via Mexican Summer). Jon Brion produced the album to deepen her band’s sound. This is another one that's sure to make the Album of the Year list!

25 years after the historic recording of the iconic mega-hit "Rapper's Delight," former original members of The Sugarhill Gang, Master Gee & Wonder Mike, come back to reclaim their identities and rightful place in hip-hop history.

This documentary will screen at the Newport Beach FIlm Festival on Saturday April 28th at 8:30pm at Triangle Square
