The Promise is billed as a lost Springsteen album. The 21 songs were left over from the 40 or so he recorded for 1978's Darkness on the Edge of Town. The multiple-disc box set releases tomorrow (Nov. 16) and heard for the first time, will be some of his early influences (Roy Orbison, doo-wop, classic rock 'n' roll).
