{Son of the Sunshine}
Another of my favorite films I took in during The Newport Beach Film Festival was the Canadian film written and directed by Ryan Ward called Son of the Sunshine. Son of the Sunshine is a somber film follows the life of Sonny Johnns, who has been diagnosed with tourette’s Syndrome, and chronicles his life as he undergoes a life-altering surgery that will open the doors to the “normal life” he has always dreamed of. The film revolves around the idea of identity and the idea of discovering who we really are.
The film features music from Joanna Newsom and Devandra Banhart and is wonderfully shot and acted. Do yourself and watch this one when it plays at a theater near you.
