{Dark Horse}
During last weeks Newport Beach Film Festival I had a chance to take in a whole lotta full length features, short films, and documnetaries.
The Australian film Dark Horse was my absolute favorite short film of the dozen or so screenings that I attended. Clocking In under the thirty minute mark this film was poignant, beautiful and all together captivating.
The story follows Minh Tran, a lonely taxi driver whose relationship with his wife has disintegrated following a miscarriage. One night his path crosses that of Isabella Fortino, a girl forced into prostitution by her boyfriend. Minh’s show of kindness to Isabella leads to an unlikely connection as they lose themselves in each other’s company and leave their troubled lives behind.
Dark Horse has been selected for screening at various film festivals including international events hosted by India, Thailand, Ireland, South Africa, Egypt and the U.S. It won the Best Short Film award at the Byron Bay International Film Festival.
I had a chance to speak with producer Simon Ritch, who told me that he and director Marc Furmie are currently working on a full length feature. When I hear more on that, so will you!
