{Damien Jurado}
My current favorite album is On My Way to Absence by the insanely talented Damien Jurado. Throughout his career Jurado has played around with various different styles. He can whisper a sad confessional song as well as experiment with slightly ecletic hooks. On his most recent effort Jurado presents 12 songs centered on jealousy. The tracks deal with love, death, and the day-to-day intimate details of close relationships. Delivered with his compelling and slightly wavering voice the album is consistent with Jurado's past works but manages to come off new. Standout tracks include "Fuel" and "White Center". However my ultimate Damien Jurado track is the poignant and moving "Ohio" which continues to reduce me to an emotional and teary-eyed mess whenever I listen to it...which is almost daily.

These songs stand well on their own, but throw in the jealousy concept and it's even better! I thought I read somewhere Damien Jurado is a pre-school teacher...I wish he was my kids pre-school teacher!
