{Clean}

I've been waiting for this film to release nationwide for quite some time now. Clean stars the usually-glamorous Maggie Cheung (In The Mood For Love, Hero) and is directed by Cheung's ex-husband Oliver Assaya (the two divorced during post production).
Plot Summary: After several years of living together, Lee Hauser (James Johnston) and Emily Wang (Maggie Cheung) are all washed up. Mythical rock star of the 80s, Lee no longer has a recording contract. He goes from one small town to another giving concerts. But their carefree life of easy money and fame has disappeared, destroyed by their dependence on drugs and now even their son lives with his grandparents - Lee’s parents, Albrecht (Nick Nolte) and Rosemary Hauser (Martha Henry).
When Lee is found dead from an overdose in a motel room, Emily is arrested for possession of drugs and put into prison. Her life falls to pieces. Released six months later, she decides to start over in Paris where she once lived. But everything has changed. Emily focuses her attention on getting her son back and rebuilding her life from the ruins of a rock and roll past …and go (you guessed it) clean.

Maggie Cheung’s portrayal of a heroin junkie/rock girlfriend won her top honors at 2004's Cannes Film Festival. Not interested yet, how about if I mention that the film features cameos from Tricky and Metric (yes, that's the beautiful Emily Haines singing "Dead Disco" in the trailer). Clean has now began playing in select theaters stateside, but my guess is that since it originally released in 2004, it shouldn't be too hard to track down an all region dvd.
