1. Jens Lekman - "The Opposite of Halellujah"
This track is off Jens Lekman’s very first EP on Hidden Camera’s label Evil Evil. This song (which is the name of the EP) has this wonderful hand clapping, Northern Soul-esque rhythm that I'm particularly fond of. I highly recommended picking this one up. I don't know who's running these MySpace accounts and I'm sure everyone who knows me is sick of me going off about Jens, but head over to this first MySpace page and checkout "Maple Leaves 7Inch" and on this second MySpace give a listen to "Sweet Summer Night"...'Oh, I still remember Regulate with Warren G.'...oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
2. Cut Copy - "Time Stands Still" (Mp3 courtesy of Music Cherry)
This song is from Cut Copy's 2005 album Since Bright Like Neon Love and it is amongst the catchiest of the bunch. The Australian trio desribe their sound as a fusion of scuzzy disco, post-post-punk, electric lovers rock, and sweet space pop...you can hear what they sound like for yourself from their MySpace.
3. El Otro Yo - "No Me Importa Morrier"
This is a classic El Otro Yo song from their 1999 album Abrecaminos. The Argentinian trio play poppy punk (think The Buzzcocks or The Ramones) en espanol.Hear more from their MySpace, you can download this song there.
4. Adonis Cross - "The Wizard of Flaws"
Fans of Aimee Mann or Jon Brion will love this track from Adonis Cross' soon to be released studio album, tentatively titled "The Wizard of Flaws". You can hear this song and others from his GarageBand page or more from his MySpace.
5. Cold War Kids - "The Soloist in the Living Room" (Mp3 courtesy of 3hive)
This quartet have sound thats reminiscent of The Walkmen, or maybe it's just a similiar vocal delivery? This track is from the album Mulberry Street, which they used due to the fact that they honed their craft in a storage room atop Mulberry Street restaurant in downtown Fullerton, CA. 6. Jim Noir - "I Me You I'm Yours"
Fans of the Pernice Brothers or The Shins should definitly check this guy out. He's definitly working that '60s jangly pop angle. This song is off Jim Noir's new album A Quiet Man. You can stream the album in it's entirety from his Official Site.
7. The King of France - "Sick of the Life"
This track is from The King of France's new self-titled album. This Brooklyn duo's album is filled with great pop/rock melodies, hear for yourself from their MySpace. Order the album here.
8. Delta 5 - "Try" (Get the Mp3 courtesy of Lost Bands of the New Wave Era)
Delta 5 were a three-woman, two-man group from Leeds, England who ran in the same circles as Gang of Four & The Mekons. The band formed in September of 1978 and their unusual line-up featured both double guitars and double basses. This classic post-punk tune was originally released as single and now a newly released collection gathers the groups singles, Peel sessions, and live recordings. Purchase the album here.
9. Man Man - "Engwish Bwudd"
This band made their way around the music blogs last month with tracks from their forthcoming album Six Bag Demon, which releases this month. This is my favorite track off the album...dig that pirate harmony. Hear more from a couple more from Everything is Fire or from their Official Site .
